Boone County, Missouri Inmate Search

Boone County, Missouri, inmate search refers to the process of locating individuals currently held in custody within the county jail system. Boone operates a single detention facility known as the Bounty County Jail. Because there’s only one jail facility in the county, individuals booked and arrested locally will usually appear in the same detainee roster

Individuals who have been convicted and transferred to a state prison can be located through the Missouri Department of Corrections ( MODOC) offender search portal. Some individuals arrested in Boone County may also face federal charges and may be transferred to facilities managed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Although Boone County does not have a federal prison, individuals facing federal charges in the Columbia area can be transferred to institutions elsewhere in Missouri, depending on the nature of the case.>

Two municipal police departments operate within Boone County. The Columbia Police Department serves the county seat and the most populous city, and the Ashland Police Department, which covers the second-largest city. Both departments conduct arrests within their jurisdiction. However, detainees are usually transferred to the Boone County Jail for extended custody. Neither department maintains its own public jail roster.

How to Find an Inmate in Boone County Jail

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is the official custodian of jail records in the county. How to Use the Boone County Jail Roster

Boone County provides a searchable online detainee roster listing individuals currently held in jail. The roster updates frequently as bookings and releases occur.

Belowis a step-by-step process for accessing the roster:

  • Visit the official Boone County Sheriff’s Office website
  • Locate the Current Detaineeslink on the sheriff’s webpage. The link redirects to the county’s online reporting portal
  • Enter the inmate’s last name in the search field. You can also use the inmate’s first name (if known). This helps narrow results.
  • Click Search to run the query to view matching detainees.

If the search returns no results, the person may not currently be in custody. In that case, consider obtaining the records directly or checking the Missouri Department of Corrections website for possible transfers. The roster also includes an Export Detainees and Charges option, allowing users download the full list of current detainees in a single file.

What Information is Included in the Boone County Inmate Roster

A typical Boone County inmate roster contains the following details:

  • Full legal name
  • Race, sex, and age
  • Date and time of arrest
  • Charge description ( as recorded at booking, subject to change as the case proceeds)
  • Current custody status

These records provide basic booking information only. They do not include the person’s complete law enforcement file.

Missouri law limits what information can be released to the public. Under Missouri’s Sunshine Law, specifically Section 610.100, RSMo, certain records must remain confidential.

Examples of restricted information include:

  • Information identifying victims, confidential witnesses, and undercover officers pursuant to Section 610.100.3, RSMo.
  • Records related to an active criminal investigation pursuant to Section 610.100.3, RSMo.
  • Juvenile arrest records pursuant to Section 211.321, RSMo.

Juvenile records remain separate from adult jail records. Missouri law prohibits minors from being housed in adult jail facilities. If an individual is arrested but not formally charged within thirty (30) days, the arrest report becomes a closed record pursuant to Section 610.100.2, RSMo.

Individuals may also request expungement of eligible arrest records. When a record is expunged, it will not appear in public search results.

Inmate Search by Jail Facility

Boone County operates one adult detention facility, the Boone County Jail. So nearly all individuals in local custody appear on one centralized jail roster managed by the Sheriff’s Office. The county does not maintain separate rosters for additional facilities or work-release units.

In addition to the jail roster, the sheriff’s office provides an active warrants list. This tool is separate from the inmate roster and displays individuals who have outstanding arrest warrants but may not yet be detained. If a name does not appear in the jail search results, checking the warrants roster can help determine whether a warrant exists.

If an individual has already been convicted and transferred out of the county jail, they may be located through the Missouri Department of Corrections Offender Search. Those facing criminal charges can be found using the Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator.
